It is my understanding, that the See-Elefant at Castricum was not established until after JUN 1944 so it cannot be on the map.
SES
But is on the map for sure!!! It's even on the 26-03-1943 map of 347 Div (ref BaMa RH26-347/8K)

SES hat geschrieben:Hi,
My understanding is, that there was a Was M called MAX at Bergen on 20 JUN 1944.
There was a Lw Mammut called MORITZ at The Hague.
I have attached a JUL 1943 and a JUN 1944 map. They are consistent in their names and locations.
SES
I'm awfull sorry for messing things up by mixing up the names Max and Moritz.... :megawut: We were speaking of the Wassermann at Max so please ignore my ref to Moritz, it should be Max!

Hi Ses and Klaas

Thank for the explanations about the missing
of the names on the German maps , the reference
to Klippfisch ( Einzelgeräte ) is from 03-1945 .
Could it be that old Max ( the Wassermann M on Ses
map from 20 Juli 1944) was renamed to "Klippfisch"
after the completion of the "Elefant" geräte the new Max.
Just as the change of names as Auerhahn in Denmark ?
Or to make it easy er was the "Elefant" was called "Klippfisch"
Also the Stellenbesetzung from Max is only called II./223 so no
own number . As you see a lot of questions and no answers .

Regards Jos

Hi,
When was the See-Elefant established then? If you have it on a map that early, is the MAX on my maps actually the SE? Early 1943 sounds awfully early considering it used a Wassermann M IV mast for the receiver.

Hi Jos & SES,

Don't know when the Elefant at Bergen NL was established, but i'm positively sure it's on the 26-03-43 map.

The "Klippfisch" of Jos his reference is dated 03-'45, so it can't be related to the Elefant because according Trenkle the Elefant at Bergen NL was dismantled september 1944.

SES, Bergen NL had an Elefant and not a See-Elefant...

Best regards, Klaas

Hi Klaas,
Thank you for making the designation clear. That explains the markedly different transmtter antenna.

Hello Klaas

Do you know if there was a Wassermann foundation
found at Moritz , because there is a photo in Trenkle
from a Wassermann M with what looks like a Heidelberg
radar . Do you have that book ?

Hi Jos,

Yes i have the book and Trenkle describes an Elefant at Both Max and Moritz. But i've never found any evidence of a Elefant (including the required Wassermann M IV) at Moritz. No German docs or resistance reports of these quite obvious and hard to hide enormous masts!

We do however have a confirmed LW Mammut at Moritz (quite close to the KM Mammut!).

Please note the Elefant system consited of the Elefant mast and a W'Mann IV mast. See enclosed pics from Max from the 'vliegveld Bergen' book by Johan Schuurman.

In my honest opinion Trenkle made a mistake with the Elefant at Moritz, it was only at Max i think.

Best regards, Klaas

Hi,
Leif was kind enough to bring to my attention that I had missed 3 Was Stellungen in the Eastern Med. I have corrected:
http://www.gyges.dk/Stellungen%20Reich% ... um%204.pdf
One of these Stellungen was located on Rhodes, judging from my source in the SW part of the island. This could very well be on the highest mountain. Please see attached map. If anyone goes there this summer could they please have a look. :) This site is very interesting since it was a Wassermann L Stellung.

Hi SES,

have you ever been on Rhodes?
It´s not quite easy to climb the Ataviros and the area around it is in lager parts a very thick and thorny wood.

Cheers, Eric
And I'm hovering like a fly, waiting for the windshield on the freeway...
