Stp. Renntier, La pointe du Raz
Stp.

Hi,
Maybe this map is of some help? It's coming from Chazette's big green book, one of the better books about Atlantikwall in France.
Best regards, Klaas

Hi SES,
Agree with your suggestion about the northern part. The text in Chazette's book does not give any further clues.
The Dora....Pointe du Raz was one of the early Flugmelde radarpositons of 1940 (that were later transfered to Nachtjagd). Always thought that the Würzburg Dora's were replaced by the Würzburg Riesen. But maybe the Dora was kept as a backup? Please note that Zander (were the Dora part was found) was also an early war Flugmelde position before it became a Nachtjacht radarstation.
Best regards, Klaas

Hi Klaas,
For years I was confused over the existence of two aircraft reporting organizations: the Flugmelde-Dienst and The Flugmeldemess Dienst, but they both used radars! When I published Vol 1. back in 1992, I sent Alfred Price a copy and he wrote back that HE never understood it either until he read my book.
If I may use an analogy in Denmark the Flugmelde-Dienst (FLUKO/FLUWA) was equipped with radars as follows:
RADARSTATIONS SUBORDINATED TO Flugmeldeabteilung Dänemark:
Location Date of establishment Equipment
Fanø MAY 1940 Freya
Blåvand Mid 1941 Freya and Würzburg D
Nymindegab Early 1942 Freya
Søndervig Mid 1941 Freya and Würzburg D
Bovbjerg APR 1942 Würzburg D (sic)
Mors ? Freya
Vorupør OCT 1942 Wassermann S
Klitmøller Prior to NOV 42 Freya
Hanstholm APR 1940 Freya and Würzburg D
Skagen 27 APR 1940 Freya
Fyns Hoved Prior to AUG 1940 Freya
Gilleleje 8 JUN 1942 Freya
Klemenskjær Late 1942 Freya
A Flugmeldemess Stellung was later constructed at Blåvand, Søndervig (Houvig) and Skagen - but here the Freya remained - just to confuse the picture.
As the complex of Flugmeldemess Stellungen expanded some of these were disbanded, but some remained. Iaw Hoffmann there was a similar development in France and it is concievable that some sites have retained the equipment from the Flugmelde-Dienst.
So I think you are right. The Dora could be a left-over and not a stby piece of equipment.
