V1 in southern Denmark.
V1 in southern Denmark.
Hi,
In the spring of 1945 a small number of V1s "came down" in southern Denmark. Most exploded or were turned into useless spare parts on impact, but one came down almost intact and was displayed on a Danish museum post war.
Now the question is: Where were they launched from? The few sites in North-Western Germany were too far away for a V1 going off course to end up in Denmark and KG 53 sized airborne launches in JAN 1945.

Hello
No one?
As an supplement to what SES write above this is what has come from "reliable source" on a Danish forum:
Quote:
"There are the following known crachsites in Denmark:
2 Trainingbombs on Bornholm. Bodelsker Church 22/8-43 and Østermarie 8/4-44.
18/7-43 Baltic Sea south off Svaneke. Also trainingbomb.
In Jutland:
Tipperne, Værneengene 21/3-45. Did not explode.
3 km northeast off Oksbøl 27/3-45. Explodes.
Them, 8 km south off Silkeborg 28/3-45. Did not explode.
Højer 5/4-45. Explodes.
Højer 12/4-45. Did not explode.
Als Sound off Sandvig. Time unknown. Later found by divers.
Flensburg fjord off Selde. Time unknown. Later found by divers."
Unquote.
It is the ones in 1945 thats interesting. The ones on Bornholm in 1943 - and the ones which landed in Sweden also in 1943 / 44 are accounted for. They came from Peenemünde / Rügen.
But the ones which landed in Denmark in 1945?
Where could the firingpositions have been situated?
Leck or / and Flensburg have been mentioned, but are there any evidence of firingpositiones in that area - any remains - any documentation?

Hi,
I think I have found the explanation. The V1 missiles must have been fired from this place, which I found with a bit of Google Foo:
http://www.astronautix.com/sites/cuxhaven.htm
please note the passage:
Following the heavy bombing of Peenemuende by the allies on 17 August 1943 it was decided to disperse the research facilities. In early 1944 a detachment of researchers set up launch ramps for V-1 cruise missiles and continued development of the missile from the site.
Has the area been opned for the public? and are there any V1 ramps left?
Those are the next questions.

Hi SES,
schau mal
https://www.geschichtsspuren.de/cms/rak ... walde.html
an.
Leif

Hi Leif,
Thank you for your quick response. I was familiar with Operation Backfire and it was actually this operation that got me on the trail of the site via Google. It was gratifying to see from Mike's article, that there is still hope of finding some remains.
Another lost figment uncovered.

Hi,
One of the V-1s, mentioned by Kurt above, was on display on a Danish museum just after the liberation. It was examined about a week ago and it has a rail on the bottom and no suspension lugs on top. So it is a ground launched version. So someone somewhere was launching V-1s from the ground in MAR - APR 1945.

Hello all
Also see this, provided by a certain "old stubborn Colonel" - SES, no offence
Quote:
Unquote.
Could you provide further to that - SES
There are also this from the book of Wilhelm Hellmold:
See attached chapter.
Anyone knows Hellmold in person? We sure would like to know his sources for that statement.
