Hallo.

The Cheyenne Mountain Upgrade (CMU) program is part of the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (TW/AA) and Space Controls Systems. It is a consolidation of six separate development programs (mandated by the Defense Acquisition Board in 1989) detailed below. The CMU’s primary responsible agency is AFSPACECOM, and it is scheduled for completion by December 1995.

- Survivable Communications Integration System (SCIS) – will serve as an automated communications and message processor for 12 fixed ballistic missile sensor centers, two correlation centers and seven fixed forward command centers. The system is required to control and process all critical ballistic missile warning message traffic simultaneously using communications systems of different survival levels.

- Communication System Segment Replacement (CSSR) – provides external circuit (sensor sites and forward users) interfacing to Cheyenne Mountain. It also provides message distribution for Cheyenne Mountain’s internal mission areas and external circuits using a distributed processing architecture on fault-tolerant computers.

- Command Center Processing and Display System Replacement (CCPDS-R) – will replace the current missile warning function and will process and display ballistic missile TW/AA information for distribution to forward users. This data, displayed on the processor and display subsystem (PDS), is used for Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) emergency action conferences and will provide force management processing for strategic purposes.

- Granite Sentry Program – replaces computers and display systems in the Air Defense Operations Center (ADOC), NORAD Operations Center, Battle Staff Support Center (BSSC) and Weather Support Unit (WSU). It also provides a new facility for the mission-integrated command post.

- Space Defense Operations Center (SPADOC 4) Program – replaces the interim SPADOC 3 system with new facilities, hardware and software that improve space threat assessment and warning capabilities. It also upgrades the Space Surveillance Center (SSC) and integrates space defense and surveillance into a single computer architecture.

- Offutt Processing and Correlation Center (OPCC) – will provide an alternate capability at Offutt Air Force Base, NB, for supporting the Integrated TW/AA System as well as command and control frunctions currently conducted only within Cheyenne Mountain. The facility will be an underground, two-story, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP)-protected structure. The OPCC will operate as an austere, functional equivalent of Cheyenne Mountain and be able to perform critical integrated TW/AA and command, control and communications (C3) functions. Phase I of OPCC will provide the missile warning function and Phase II will provide an equivalent NORAD function.
Wie schnell die Zeit vergeht…
