GPSS: Government Pipeline and Storage System

Hallo,

seit Mai 2015 ist die GPSS an einen neuen Betreiber verkauft worden und wird wohl in Zukunft wie folgt geführt: CLH pipelines system.

Die GPSS ist ein System aus Pipelines und Tanks, welches aus der Zeit des zweiten Weltkriegs stammt und viele Flugplätze versorgte. In der Zeit des kalten Krieges gehörte das GPSS zum Nato Pipeline System, auch wenn es keine Verbindung gab. http://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/topics_56600.htm
Wie sich die Veräußerung auswirkt, ist bisher nicht bekannt.

"Tim of Aclea" schreibt an einem Buch zu dem Thema, welches für für Sommer 2015 geplant ist: "I have written a History of the Government Pipeline and Storage System. This is the largest petroleum storage and transportation system in the UK. It was originally constructed before and during WW2 and used to supply the war effort. In particular the bombing campaign and the invasion of North-West Europe. After the war it was utilised in support of the Cold War, for civil storage and for the supply of civil airports and ground fuels. A publisher has stated that they wish to publish the book and hopeful it will come out in the summer of 2015. We are currently awaiting MoD clearance."

Für mich erstaunlich war die Darstellung der Pluto/Dumbo Pipeline, welche ja als großer Erfolg der Allierten dargestellt wurde. Fakt ist, dass es eigentlich ein völliges Scheitern war. Andere Ansicht und entsprechende Darstellung: http://www.combinedops.com/pluto.htm

UK Mainland umfasst so weit mir bekannt England, Wales und Scotland, nicht aber die Highlands und Islands und erst recht nicht Northern Ireland und Ireland.
