I just took a look over the sorties of the SAAF 60th Recce Squadron operations april-aug 44 and the closest they came to the area is Constanta which is 125 KM to the North so...weak chances, maybe something is left from other USAF recce groups, although keeping in mind that Varna was no target for the USAAF that's a dead end too.
http://ncap.org.uk/ holds over 1.000.000 Luftwaffe recce photos but it will probably take years for them to put them online
Best bet would be a local who is very knowledgeable, but that's hard to find I guess.

Thanks a lot. If I could Google in Bulgarian there might be a chance. There must be one or two Ln-Nerds in the area.

I've just finished a quick search of Bulgarian sites for the keyword combination of "radar", "German", "Varna", "Mammut", "1944", of course written in their language, and found nothing.

You're welcome SES, I already googled last evening with several keywords by using google translate first, absolutely nothing came out.
We might be a bit lucky, I know a guy who grew up in Varna and now lives in another part of Bulgaria but he's a WW2 aircraft enthusiast, so unless he has some direct info hopefully he'll be able to direct me to someone else, I assume that the community over there is as small as in Romania eg. everyone knows everyone.
