Flugm-Leit-Kompanie „Tonfels”

Beitrag von Alkali » 10.12.2005 18:55

Hi All,

Mr Karl O. Hoffmann in one's book wrote :

„1. schwere Flugm-Leit-Kompanie „Tonfels”, Birklau b. Thorn”

Double error.
For first, was not village about name Birklau. Was instead village Birglau ( Polish name Bierzglowo ).
For second, „Tonfels” never was stationed in Bierzglowo / Birglau. Radars one placed over 3 kilometres to the east, on fields of village Lubianka ( German name Luben – Koordinaten N 53° 8’, O 18° 29’ ).
In this of village I found old woman, which all saw. From windows one's own room saw how "Tonfels" was built and how became destroyed in January 1945.
On theme of equipment said, that was there :
- Only one :!: large radar on concrete – socle ( „Wurzburg-Riese” ),
- One radar with antenna how mattress ( „Freya” ),
- One wooden tower ( probably „Heinrich Peiler” ),
- Only one :!: ectangular barrack ( no typical T-Baracke !! ).

This all, more nothing there was not, very little equipments how on „schwere F-L-K” !
I asked whether was second W-R but woman all time very categorical spoke only about one !

Today after "Tonfels" remained only rebuilt barrack.
W-R socle broke several of years after war man this old women. His equipment this only hammer and chisel ! Ruins used in foundationses built barns. Now in place where once was W-R is only hole in earth.

Hi again.
I have just looked at "Wir Stegskopfer", a book not related to Hoffmann. On page 313 is written about Tonfels and mentioned a Jagdschloß. A Jagdschloß could be up to 5 km seperated from the "rest".

Best Regards,
Leif

Moin,

:thanx:

Grüße, Eric

Hi!

As I understand Czarek's posting, this old lady is the wife of the guy who removed the WR sockel.

Exactly yes ! This older lady this Pole, which worked compulsorily at one German from 1941. In 1945 had 20 of years.
I spoke from her about „lightnings girls”. However said, that saw only men, of women was not.

"Wir Stegskopfer" Seite 310: "Meindl, Fritz<br>
20.11.44 mit 5 mann über Königsberg nach Thorn. Mit F.-J. Schäfer in die FuM-Stellung "Tonfels" an Jagdschloß, 2 Freya, 1 W.-Riese, 1 Dora. (...)"

Leif hat geschrieben:Jagdschloß, 2 Freya, 1 W.-Riese, 1 Dora. (...)"
So we have 2 Wuerzburgs: Riese and Dora!
The info about Jagdschloss is interesting too, because - if I understood Mr. Hoffmann properly - one Jagdschloss (PPI display) was to be installed in every site 1. Ordnung, but only 80 had been deployed until the war ended. So, on every 1. Ordn. site there is some possibility we may find Jagdschloss remains - most likely bricks and flat fragments of thick concrete.

Czarek - great story :) This is difficult to come across eye-witnesses in Poland, because of post-war borders "corrections". But I know of other interesting memories waiting to see the daylight ;)

brgds,
Michal

PS> Did Freya-Verbunkert have a PPI (could it be considered Panorama-Geraet)?

Error, in radar station "Tonfels" were two radars Würzburg-Riese, not one ;-)
