Stellung 1. Ordnung Tatzelwurm

Beitrag von CoVoX » 13.05.2009 23:57

Hello Everybody!

I am looking for all possible information which may lead to the discovery of the localization for radar station Tatzelwurm close to Tarnów. It is one of the last unknown WW2 radar localizations in Poland.
It was called Funkmeßgerät Stellung 1. Ordnung, and was equipped with 2 radars FuMG-65 Würzburg-Riese, 2 radars Freya and 1 radar Wassermann M IV.
Unfortunately all research done in the field and in archives did not provide any results, so that is why I ask all users of this forum for help to localize this radar station.

Thank You in advance for eventual leads

Best Regards
CoVoX

P.S.
Please find below the list of discovered objects:

In my opinion, all possible remains of the stations have been removed as the city of Tarnow eventually grew up and now occupies a broader area than in 1945. My friend and me were repeatedly trying to locate this site for the past years, and you asked the same question on numerous forums, but without a single sign of success so far. We were succesful in so many other cases, so now we are convinced that any further effort to find the former TATZELWURM will be fruitless. The same applies to another mysterious location, Stellung KONRADSBURG in central Poland.

Kind regards,
Michal

Hello,

just 2 ideas:

How good or exact are those maps shown at "CoVox" message?
Would it be possible to "scan" such a map and rekoordinate it to make the search area for the remains smaller?

Are there any geografic / technical demands which could be deduced from other stations?

Greetings
Thomas

Dear Beaviso,

Thank You for the reply!

I am searching for Tatzelwurm “dead or alive” – till now none of the several people I have questioned from the vicinity of Tarnow, provided confirmation of the existence of radars, nor the destruction of such construction, nor destruction of foundation.

Because in all cases at least one foundation for W-R radar was found, I believe that Tatzelwurm will be the same case, and it will be finally found.

Regards,
CoVoX

Hello Thomas,

Sure, I have made necessary calculations. Comparing the distances between points on map and real radar stations I have calculated that Tatzelwurm should be located around 60 km from Kranstein and 140 km from Wartenstein. So if the map had been prepared according to scale, Tatzelwurm should be located north-east from Tarnow. I have been several times there, but nobody confirmed the existence of the radar station in this area.

Regards,
CoVoX

Blame me, that anchor has been preserved in a pretty good shape! It must be really hidden well, 'cos otherwise those g'damn "scrap-metal hunters" would have already stolen every piece made from steel. Again, a decent find :)
Now there's only one still to be found (The Fifth "Polish Was" - TIRSTEIN). Should be no big deal as the W-Rs were already located, as far as I know and am not mistaken.

Kind regards,
Michal

Hi,
The Wassermann should be within a radius of 1.500 m, but that is still quite an area to search.
