Groß Freya

Hi,
We have come across references to the Groß Freya a couple of times, but neither Hoffmann nor Trenkle makes any mention of it. I have had the picture attached for as long as I have done this type of research, and based on a published source, I thought it was from FAUN. Based on a RAF PRO file I now know that the picture is from STAR. It is obviously a version of a Freya LZ, could this be the elusive Groß Freya ?

Hi SES,

such a mysterious Groß-Freya must have been used - as Dahl told us in his small book - in the Stellung KOMET in Duisburg.

Thank you. I remember that picture very well. I think we have another one where one can see some fairly solid shadows across the road.

zum Thema Groß-Freya eine kleine, aber vielleicht weiterführende Ergänzung: Dahl beschreibt, daß etwa ab Ende Oktober/Anfang November 1943 die Sonder-FUMB-Stelle "Komet" bei Huckingen südlich Duisburg eingerichtet war. Diese Stellung stand unter Führung von Olt. John von der Luftnachrichtenschule Halle, und war (u.a.) mit einem Groß-Freya-Gerät ausgestattet. Mit diesem Gerät konnten sowohl die 4 m Wellen erfaßt werden, wie auch die 1,25 m Wellen (240 MHz), letztere allerdings mit einem gesonderten Horchempfänger mit Richtantenne.

Hi,
A wave length of 4 m equals 75 mhz. A Freya LZ A worked at 3 m/100 Mhz. My "Gross Freya" drawing has an antenna, which is larger than that of a Freya LZ A, so 4 m/75 Mhz seems like a likely freq. We might be getting closer.
